Questions we hear most
What Acne Med strength should I use?
How long does it take for benzoyl peroxide to work?
Patience is key when clearing acne! Acne Med starts killing acne-causing bacteria right away, but visible results take time since acne forms beneath the skin before it appears. A brief purge may occur as existing clogs surface. This is normal!
With nightly use and a full acne-safe routine, most clients see improvement around the 3 month mark. Reach out to your Clover Esthetician if you have questions about your progress.
Can benzoyl peroxide cause purging?
A purge can occur when starting Acne Med as it clears congestion and brings buildup to the surface. It may look like new breakouts, but it’s just existing clogs being released. The purge is temporary and usually settles within a few weeks as your skin adjusts.
If irritation still occurs or you’re unsure about your progress, reach out to your Clover Esthetician for guidance.
What's the difference between Acne Med and Mandelic Serum?
Acne Med is used at night to kill acne-causing bacteria, clear breakouts, and prevent new ones with benzoyl peroxide.
Mandelic Serum is used during the day to exfoliate, unclog pores, and smooth texture while keeping bacteria under control.
Together, they form one of the most effective acne-fighting combinations available.
Does benzoyl peroxide bleach the skin?
Benzoyl peroxide won’t bleach your skin. It kills acne-causing bacteria by releasing oxygen into the pores, not by lightening pigment.
It can, however, bleach fabrics. Let Acne Med dry fully before contact, or use white linens. For a safer option, try Clean Skin Club disposable face towels to avoid bleaching and bacteria transfer.
Can benzoyl peroxide help acne scars?
Benzoyl peroxide helps prevent new breakouts and stops new acne scars from forming. It won’t fade existing scars but can reduce inflammation and redness that make them more visible.
To improve discoloration or texture from past breakouts, pair Acne Med with brightening or exfoliating products like Mandelic Serum, or follow a treatment plan from your Clover Esthetician.
Is benzoyl peroxide pregnancy safe?
While topical benzoyl peroxide is safe to use during pregnancy in moderate amounts and lower strengths, we always recommend you check with your healthcare provider before using any active skincare while pregnant or nursing.
Can benzoyl peroxide be used with retinol?
Usually not at the same time.
Benzoyl peroxide and retinol can deactivate each other and increase dryness or irritation when layered together. If your routine includes both, use retinol on alternating nights as directed by your Clover Esthetician.
Can I put Acne Med on my body?
Yes! The chest, back, and shoulders are common areas to get acne, and 10% Acne Med is a great choice for treating body acne!
